A murder investigation has been launched after a 45-year-old man was found dead following a reported assault at a block of flats in Southampton. Police were called to an address on Weston Lane at 4.21am on Sunday, August 9, following reports that a man had been assaulted. Officers and other emergency services rushed to the scene, where a 45-year-old man from Southampton was found. Despite the emergency response, he was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.
Two arrested on suspicion of murder
A 23-year-old woman from Bournemouth and a 54-year-old man from Southampton were located by police nearby. Both were arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody while detectives investigate the circumstances surrounding the man’s death. A significant police presence has remained on Weston Lane throughout Sunday, with a large cordon established around the block of flats. Specialist forensic officers have spent hours examining the scene, taking photographs and carrying evidence bags and equipment in and out of the building. 
Witnesses describe major emergency response
Residents reported seeing numerous police vehicles and ambulances arriving during the early hours. One witness said there were “tonnes of ambulances and police cars” outside the flats at around 6am. 
Weston Lane itself has remained open, although a section of pavement outside the property has been cordoned off.
Police investigation continues
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed officers will remain in the area while further enquiries are carried out. In a statement, the force said: “We were called at 4:21am this morning (Sunday 9 August) to a report that a man had been assaulted at an address on Weston Lane, Southampton. “Officers attended and a 45-year-old man from Southampton was declared deceased at the scene. His next of kin has been informed. 
“A 23-year-old woman from Bournemouth and a 54-year-old man from Southampton were located nearby and arrested on suspicion of murder. They remain in custody at this time. “Our investigation into the incident is ongoing and officers will be carrying out further enquiries in the area. “Anybody with any concerns can speak to an officer.” The victim has not yet been publicly named.
