Becky Hill, 32, has responded strongly to comedian Jack Whitehall after he referred to her as “Wetherspoons Whitney” during his hosting performance at the BRIT Awards on March 1, 2025. The incident took place at the prominent music event in London, where Whitehall’s roast of various stars stirred controversy.

In her new album, Rebecca, Hill directly addresses the insult, describing it as classist and highlighting personal aspects of her background and journey in the music industry.

At a recent intimate concert, Becky introduced her track “Daddy’s Range Rover” with a pointed dedication: “This one’s for you, Jack.” The song’s lyrics accuse Whitehall of unfairly judging her based on her accent and suggest he has benefited from family connections. The lyrics include lines such as: “Just ’cause your daddy worked in showbiz, got you a job with his old boss… You judge me on my accent before I even start, but you know nothing about me.”

On Instagram, Becky criticised Whitehall’s privileged upbringing, calling him a “privately educated nepo baby” and condemning his “Wetherspoons Whitney” comment as classist. She emphasized her working-class roots in Worcestershire and the challenges she has faced compared to those with industry ties or elite London schooling.

During the BRIT Awards, Whitehall, 37, opened his hosting set with a roast of the nominees, describing Becky as “the soaring vocals of the Wetherspoons Whitney.” While the remark was intended as a backhanded compliment referencing Whitney Houston’s voice, Hill found the insult offensive.

Whitehall, known for his education at Marlborough College and being the son of talent agent Michael Whitehall, has hosted the BRIT Awards six times.

The public exchange between Hill and Whitehall raises questions about future interactions at events like the BRITs. Fans are curious whether Whitehall will issue an apology or continue the comedic roast, while Hill’s sharp rebuttal indicates she will not let the slight go unanswered.
