Kent Police have launched an appeal following the discovery of two dead ducks and two injured ducklings near The Fleet waterway in Sheerness on Saturday 30 May 2026. Officers responded at approximately 11.30am after receiving reports that wildfowl had been targeted with a catapult, prompting an ongoing investigation.

In response to the incident, police took immediate action to protect the remaining birds and reviewed CCTV footage to identify potential suspects. The use of a catapult to harm protected wildlife has raised significant concerns among local residents and authorities.

Inspector Julia Bassindale has called for witnesses to come forward, noting that two boys were seen near the scene at the time of the incident. The boys are described as being between 12 and 14 years old, with dark hair, and wearing shorts and grey t-shirts.

Kent Police are urging anyone with information to assist the investigation by contacting the appeal line on 01795 419119 and quoting reference 46/86974/26. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously through Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111 or submitting details via the online Crimestoppers form.

Authorities emphasize the importance of community support in holding those responsible accountable for harming protected wildlife.
