A serving Metropolitan Police officer has been sentenced after being found guilty of assaulting a person known to her while off duty.

PC Rachael Brown, attached to the Met’s North West Command Unit, was convicted of two counts of assault relating to incidents that occurred on October 15, 2022, in Essex and November 3, 2022, in Haringey. Both assaults took place while she was off duty.

An investigation led by the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards resulted in PC Brown being charged on July 11, 2024. She was found guilty at Highbury Magistrates’ Court on December 19, 2024, and was sentenced on February 18, 2025.

The court handed PC Brown an 18-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, along with a two-year restraining order.

Met Police Condemns Officer’s Actions

Chief Superintendent Sara Leach, the senior officer responsible for policing in north-west London, condemned PC Brown’s behavior. “There is no place in the Met for officers who commit criminal offences. Any allegations will be thoroughly investigated and, where appropriate, brought before the courts,” she said.

PC Brown was suspended from duty following the charges in July 2024. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that misconduct proceedings will now commence in light of the conviction.

The case highlights the Met’s ongoing efforts to hold its officers accountable and maintain public trust amid heightened scrutiny over police conduct.
