Care Home Boss Jailed for Raping Colleague and Assaulting Two Others
A North Lanarkshire care home manager has been slammed with nearly eight years behind bars for raping a vulnerable colleague and sexually assaulting two young women. Naijil Paul abused his position of power, even threatening one victim with the sack if she refused his sick demands.
On the Run: From Scotland to India
Paul was meant to face trial back in 2019 but pulled a disappearing act, fleeing to Kochi, India, under false pretences that his father was ill. A warrant was promptly issued, but it took until February this year for police in Delhi to finally nab him. He was swiftly extradited back to Scotland to face justice.
Victim Blaming Backfires Despite Guilty Plea
Even after pleading guilty in October, Paul shockingly tried to shift blame, claiming he thought he was “doing one woman a favour.” The courts weren’t having it. He was handed a hefty 7 years and 9 months, with a slight reduction only because of his guilty plea.
- Charges: Rape and two counts of sexual assault
- Sentenced by: High Court in Glasgow
- Extradited from: India after years on the run
This grim case exposes the terrifying abuse lurking behind care home walls and shows just how far predators will go to dodge the long arm of the law.
