Horrific Plane Crash Near Rochdale
A devastating plane crash just after 11am on Tuesday, 3 February, has left two men dead. Emergency crews scrambled to farmland near Littleborough, Rochdale, after the small aircraft came down.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed both victims died at the scene. Authorities believe no one else was on board, and thankfully, no injuries occurred on the ground. The plane had taken off earlier from Birmingham.
Pilot Named: 36-Year-Old Arian Abbasi
One of the victims has been identified as 36-year-old pilot Arian Abbasi from Harrow, Greater London. His family paid a moving tribute:
“Arian was a deeply loving father and a devoted husband. He lived his life for his family and friends, giving them constant love, strength, and support.
Flying was his passion, and he was just days away from starting an exciting new chapter with a commercial airline on 23 February — a dream he pursued with immense pride and determination.”
Search Underway for Missing Parachute Device
Investigators are hunting for a crucial piece of the parachute system linked to the crash. The item is small, about 10cm wide and 30cm long, made of red anodised metal, weighs less than 2kg, and might feature a silver collar at one end.
The difficult terrain and potentially vast search area have hampered recovery efforts. Authorities urge the public:
- If spotted, do not touch the device.
- Contact Greater Manchester Police immediately on 101.
The investigation continues as police piece together what caused this tragic crash.
