Portsmouth Historic Dockyard to Glow with Stunning Christmas Illuminations!
This winter, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is set to dazzle like never before. From 1 December 2016 until 3 January 2017, a brand-new interactive light show will bring festive cheer with a spectacular ‘I Saw Three Ships’ projection.
Epic Light Show Shines on Iconic Ships
For the first time ever, the historic Action Stations warehouse will become the canvas for a breathtaking display. The 170-year-old listed building will showcase three legendary ships — HMS Victory, HMS Warrior 1860, and the Mary Rose — projected onto its walls every day from 3.30pm.
Accompanied by classic Christmas tunes, the visual extravaganza will play out in the natural amphitheatre created by the Mast Pond, adding a magical floating effect as the ships reflect on the water below.
Get Hands-On with Interactive Steering Wheels
But this isn’t just a light show. Visitors can take control using three interactive steering wheels positioned in front of Action Stations. Take the helm of each ship and watch it “rise” from the pond onto the wall, aided by animated sailors and dockyard workers.
The ship with the most “raises” will be rewarded with a special one-minute spotlight telling its unique story — a thrilling experience for all ages.
