Paul Gascoigne Feared Death After Horror Festive Fall

Gazza’s Terrifying Fall Leaves Him Fighting for Breath

Paul Gascoigne, the beloved football legend, thought he was moments from death after a nasty tumble over the holidays left him with six broken ribs and punctured lungs. The 57-year-old recounted to documentary makers how he “could see my dad in the clouds” as medics rushed to save him.

The accident happened at home while Gascoigne was hanging something up and slipped, falling backwards with devastating force. Despite having undergone 38 operations before, this injury hit him hard. “I was saying, ‘please get the surgeon.’ I was crying my eyes out!” he told the Clutch 9 documentary crew. “I just felt my neck getting bigger. I got the surgeon in quickly because I was panicking.”

He added, “I’ve had 38 operations so this normally doesn’t bother me, but this time I was really s******g myself.”

Another Close Call: Gazza’s Health Worries Mount

This latest scare comes after Gascoigne faced a major health crisis less than a year ago. In July, he was found semi-conscious at his Dorset home and rushed to intensive care. Thankfully, he was stabilised and began recovery in an acute medical unit.

His close friend Steve Foster expressed gratitude towards fans: “Gazza would like to thank everyone for the support he’s received so far from so many old friends who wish him well and want to see him back to his best.”

  • Became a Rangers cult hero, winning multiple league titles.
  • Earned 57 caps for England; starred at the 1990 World Cup and Euro 96.
  • Memorable for his stunning goal vs Scotland in Euro 96 and emotional tears during 1990 semi-final.

Renowned as one of England’s most naturally gifted players, Gazza’s dazzling flair, dribbling skills, and vision lit up stadiums. Yet his off-pitch battles with mental health and addiction have been well documented, making his resilience all the more remarkable.
