Island Pavements Get a Massive Makeover

Island Roads is cracking on with a major pavement upgrade across the Island. Four crews will be on the job this year to hit the Highways PFI contract’s targets and boost pavement quality.

Major Pavement Overhaul Underway

With 756 kilometres of pavements to maintain, the goal is clear: raise the average condition across all six districts. This year alone, around 50 kilometres of pavements will be improved – that’s the length of a pavement stretching from the Needles all the way to Nab Tower.

Daytime Work, Minimal Disruption

Most work will happen in daylight hours without road closures or traffic restrictions. Locals will get letters before work kicks off on their streets, keeping everyone in the loop.

Island Roads is smartly syncing pavement repairs with road improvement schemes to maximise impact. It’s all part of its massive road upgrade programme recently unveiled.

Project Manager Promises Big Progress

Paul Johnson, footways project manager, said: “We have already made great progress upgrading the Island’s pavements alongside our highways work. This programme will ramp up through spring and summer.

“While we do some resurfacing year-round, the warmer, drier months provide prime conditions. We’re set for a busy spell making major improvements to the Island’s pavements.”

  • Green Lane and Sandown Road, Shanklin
  • Cemetery Road, Lake
