Five Dead as Mexican Navy Jet Crashes Near Galveston in Medical Mission Tragedy
At least five people have died after a Mexican Navy Beechcraft 350i jet went down in thick fog near Galveston, Texas. The aircraft was on a crucial medical mission, transporting a child burn victim for treatment under the Michou y Mau Foundation, renowned for helping Mexican children with severe burns.
Heroic Rescue Amid Toxic Fog and Jet Fuel
Rescue efforts are underway despite the treacherous conditions. Mexico’s Navy Secretary confirmed one person remains missing, while two survivors were pulled from the wreckage. Local yacht captain Sky Decker emerged as a hero, guiding two police officers to the submerged plane before diving into the murky waters to save a badly injured woman trapped inside.
“I couldn’t believe it. She had maybe three inches of air gap to breathe in. And there was jet fuel in there mixed with the water, fumes real bad. She was really fighting for her life,” Decker revealed.
US and Mexican Authorities Join Forces in Search
The Mexican Navy is working closely with the US Coast Guard to continue the search and rescue operation. Thick fog and jet fuel contamination have made the mission extremely hazardous, slowing progress but not dampening determination.
Humanitarian Mission Ends in Tragedy
This heartbreaking crash strikes at the core of a vital humanitarian effort. The Michou y Mau Foundation, dedicated to saving children suffering from severe burns, lost a key patient and crew in this catastrophe. The loss underscores the risks involved in life-saving medical flights.
