A terrifying high-speed train crash near České Budějovice in the Czech Republic has left at least 42 people injured, authorities confirmed today.
Emergency Crews Race to Crash Site
The collision occurred about 100 miles south of Prague, sending firefighters and paramedics scrambling to aid the victims.
A spokeswoman for a nearby regional hospital told news agency CTK that five passengers were seriously hurt and admitted. The rest suffered minor injuries and were treated on scene.
Transport Minister Martin Kupka tweeted that the cause is under investigation, with early reports suggesting one train may have run a red signal.
“There are 40 people with light injuries and two with serious injuries,” said Petra Kafkova, ambulance service spokeswoman.
Rail operator spokesperson Martin Kavka confirmed all passengers were safely evacuated but declined to comment further pending the inquiry.
Train services between České Budějovice and Plzeň remain suspended, with no plans to resume until the afternoon.

This crash echoes a disastrous collision in Slovakia just days earlier, where around 100 people were hurt when two trains slammed together north of Bratislava. Some 79 victims were rushed to hospital, including three with serious chest and abdominal injuries. Another 60 suffered minor wounds.

Adding to rail chaos, shocking footage has emerged of a high-speed train smashing into a fruit lorry that reversed onto the tracks moments before impact. Flying pears and debris scattered as the collision unfolded.
Police confirmed five people inside the 10-wheeler lorry were injured in the crash.
