Fire Crews Rush to West Quay Shopping Centre After Sparks and Smoke Alert
Firefighters from across Southampton were scrambled to the West Quay Shopping Centre this afternoon after a fire broke out in one of the retail units.
Sparks and Smoke Trigger Emergency Response
Two crew teams responded to reports of ash and sparks seen in the ceiling of a food outlet inside the busy shopping complex.
A Hampshire Fire spokesman said: “Two crews were sent just after 4pm this afternoon (Tuesday) following reports of sparks and smoke visible through the ceiling at Southampton’s shopping centre.
Situation Under Control, Fire Crews Stand Down
- Retained crews from Botley stood by in Hightown to provide fire cover.
- Support teams from St Mary’s station also assisted at the scene.
After a thorough inspection, fire crews found no active fire and left the premises shortly after 4.30pm with no further action needed.
