Firefighters Face Intense National Skills Challenge in Lincolnshire
Firefighters from across the UK gathered on Saturday, 18 June, for a fierce national skills showdown at Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue’s Waddington Training Centre. Crews from Derby, West Midlands, Essex, Durham and Darlington, and hosts Lincolnshire battled through tough 20-minute drills focusing on road traffic accident rescues.
High-Stakes Road Rescue Trials
The challenge put their incident command, technical know-how, and medical response to the test under extreme pressure. Teams tackled complex scenarios featuring large goods vehicles, massive pile-ups, and multiple casualty incidents — all demanding split-second decisions to save lives.
Lincolnshire Takes Top Spot
Despite gloomy skies, the competition was red-hot. Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue snatched first place, followed by Essex County Fire and Rescue in second. Derbyshire claimed third, with Durham and Darlington fourth and West Midlands Fire and Rescue (Highgate) rounding out fifth.
Boosting Skills and Saving Lives
Andy Dixon, Station Manager at Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, said: “These challenges push our firefighters to perform under extreme conditions, helping them to learn new techniques and share vital knowledge with crews across the country.”
He added, “This not only sharpens their skills but also ensures we deliver top-notch service to Lincolnshire’s communities.”
Winners will now gear up for the national UKRO event this September at Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service in Eastleigh, Hampshire. Watch this space!
