Robert Bush, the disgraced undertaker who shockingly hid 30 bodies and dumped half a tonne of ashes at Legacy Independent Funeral Directors in Hull, was all about the cash, says former employee Patrick Moore. “I think he was living beyond his means,” Moore spat, trying to make sense of how Bush racked up massive debts while ripping off grieving families and charities like the Salvation Army and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Hull Funeral Parlour Horror: Bodies & Ashes Misplaced

Moore, 65, who worked as a “general dogsbody” at the firm, claims he only knew about three bodies stored at Legacy. But the ghastly truth surfaced in March 2024 – police found 35 bodies and tonnes of misplaced ashes. “The back of Legacy’s premises looked like something out of a horror movie,” Moore said. “Thirty-one bodies belonged to people whose families thought they’d been cremated. More than 100 families were given ashes that weren’t their loved ones.” Bush now awaits sentencing after being convicted for preventing 30 burials, selling fake funeral plans, and stealing from charities.

Despite owing over £55,000 and unpaid council cremation fees, Bush splurged on racing bikes, track days, and holidays – including a March 2024 trip to Los Angeles. “Rob was in America and told me if anyone came by, not to answer the door,” said Moore, who managed the funeral business while Bush was away. Locals weren’t fooled. Kevin Moxon, ex-cop turned funeral director, warned that suppliers feared not getting paid by Bush’s outfit.

MP Demands Funeral Industry Crackdown After Bush Scandal

Hull MP Emma Hardy slammed Bush as a “complete conman” with zero compassion. “He had a big house and holiday money all while knowing there were 35 bodies rotting in his parlour,” she fumed.

“You can set up tomorrow as a funeral director, stick your name on the shop front and off you go. Nobody checks anything,” Hardy blasted.

Robert Bush, originally from East Yorkshire and now living in West Yorkshire, remains on bail until his sentencing hearing on 27 July. His sick scam has left the funeral industry’s reputation in tatters, and countless families shattered.
