Firefighters raced to QA Hospital in Portsmouth this morning after a car careered off the road and crashed spectacularly down a stairway in the hospital’s North Car Park.
Silver Mercedes Ploughs Down Hospital Stairs
A silver Mercedes coupe lost control after hitting the curb, smashing through railings, and then hurtling down a set of stairs inside the hospital grounds. Eyewitnesses say the driver, a woman, reversed into another car before panicking and flooring the accelerator instead of the brake.
“The woman reversed into someone. Then, the distressed driver slammed the car into drive and barreled straight through the barrier and down the stairs,” said an anonymous hospital worker.
Emergency Crews Respond Swiftly
Two fire crews from Station 1 arrived on the scene just after 11am. Fortunately, the driver was uninjured, and crews made the area safe. The wrecked vehicle is now being recovered by specialists from Boarhunt.
Stairway Closed Off for Safety
The stairwell remains sealed off with safety barriers while investigations and repairs continue. Hospital visitors are advised to avoid the area.
