A former West Sussex assistant headteacher, David Rogers, 48, of Worthing, has pleaded guilty to attempting sexual communication with a 13-year-old boy. The offence involved sending explicit messages and attempting to arrange a meeting via social media in December 2024.

The case was heard at Lewes Crown Court on 30 April 2025, where concerns were raised about Rogers’ previous positions of trust. West Sussex Court Officers identified Rogers as the suspect behind the social media account used to contact the victim. He was arrested on 23 January 2025, with digital forensic evidence confirming his involvement.

The investigation received support from the local authority to ensure that there were no wider safeguarding issues. Rogers previously held roles as assistant headteacher at Littlehampton Academy and as chair of governors at Goring Primary School. Both positions ended in 2022, prior to the investigation beginning. He no longer works in any role involving children.

After pleading guilty, Rogers was released on conditional bail. He is scheduled to be sentenced at Lewes Crown Court on 26 June 2025. Investigator Rose Horan described Rogers’ behaviour as predatory and emphasised the seriousness of the offence given his former trusted roles.
