Witnesses described feeling “lucky to be alive” as the bridge came down in busy traffic shortly after noon. Paramedics rushed to the scene to treat at least one injured person amid the rubble and twisted railings.

The Kent Air Ambulance has also been scrambled to the scene, highlighting the seriousness of the crash.
