Tragic Crash at Staples Corner: Three Dead, Two Critical

Deadly drama struck at Staples Corner retail park late Sunday night. At 11.26pm on April 14, police rushed to reports of a horrific car crash involving a Mercedes CLK convertible.

Mercedes Ploughs Through Fence, Slams Footbridge

The Mercedes, carrying five young men in their early 20s, smashed through a car park fence before tumbling down an embankment and crashing into a footbridge. Miraculously, no other vehicles were involved.

Emergency Services Respond

Police arrived alongside London Fire Brigade, London Ambulance Service, and London’s Air Ambulance. Sadly, three men were pronounced dead at the scene. Two others were rushed to hospital. One remains in critical condition; the other’s injuries are not life-threatening.

Investigation Underway, No Arrests Yet

Officers believe several cars were in the car park at the time, and inquiries continue to piece together exactly what happened and identify everyone present. There has been no arrest, and the Mercedes was not stolen.

Inspector McDonald, Barnet Police: “Emergency services responded last night to what seems to have been a terrible accident. An urgent investigation is underway, led by the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit. Officers are notifying the families and providing them with specialist support. I send them my sincere condolences.”

The complicated recovery caused lengthy road closures, but all roads have now reopened.

Witnesses urged to call 101 with dashcam or phone footage, quoting reference 7502/14april.
