Police have officially named the two tragic victims found dead in Shanklin. Early Monday morning, officers were called to an Albert Road address after a paperboy spotted a chilling note on the front door just after 7am.
The note read: “I’m sorry but do not come into the home for the two of us. Irwins are dead. Please go home and tell your dad and phone the police.”
When police arrived, they discovered the bodies of Jean Irwin, 83, and John Irwin, 77, inside the property.
Two Shanklin Residents Found Dead
Officers also found a second note inside the home, reinforcing that both were deceased. Post-mortem results revealed Jean died from neck compression, while John’s death was due to ligature suspension.
Murder Probe Underway
Police are treating Jean’s death as murder. John’s death, however, is currently considered non-suspicious. Investigations continue under the coroner’s guidance to uncover the full circumstances.
Police Not Hunting Suspects
Authorities say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths. The family, supported by specialist officers, have requested privacy during this difficult time. Police urge media to respect their wishes.
