Woman in her 70s Dies After Horrific Lorry Crash on A31
Tragic Crash Near Burley in the New Forest
A woman in her 70s from Dorset has died following a fatal collision with a large goods vehicle on the A31 near Burley. Emergency services raced to the scene just after 8am today.
Life-Saving Efforts Fail
A Rapid Response Paramedic and an air ambulance doctor from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance tried desperately to save the woman on the side of the busy A31. The 72-year-old was rushed to Southampton General Hospital but sadly died from her injuries.
Police Investigate Crash, Lorry Driver Questioned
Officers from Western Roads Police and collision investigators spent the morning examining the foreign-registered lorry involved. The driver was questioned at the scene but has not been arrested.
Road Closures and Traffic Diversions
The eastbound carriageway was closed between A338 at Ringwood and Stoney Cross for investigations. Traffic was briefly released on one lane before the road fully reopened.
A Highways England spokesperson advised, “Eastbound traffic should leave the A31 at Ringwood, take the A338 north towards Salisbury, then the A36 south to join the M27 at Junction 2.”
Call for Witnesses
Anyone who saw the collision is urged to contact Sergeant Mark Thornley at Western Roads Policing Unit on 101, quoting Operation Monroe, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
