Kent Police and Thanet District Council have smashed a major organised crime operation in Margate after uncovering a massive cannabis farm hidden in a residential property.
Huge Cannabis Grow Operation Raid in Margate
On Monday 5 January 2026, routine checks into illegal fly-tipping in Cliff Terrace led officers to a shocking discovery: a house converted into a sprawling cannabis cultivation site.
The property was rigged with dangerous electrical tampering, creating a serious fire hazard for neighbours and the local community.
150 Cannabis Plants and Equipment Seized
Police and council teams quickly secured the property before dismantling the illegal farm. Approximately 150 cannabis plants were confiscated along with grow lights, fans, and other specialist gear powering the operation.
Police Crackdown Hits Organised Crime Hard
Inspector Richard Batten said: “Working with partners allows us to share information which on this occasion has resulted in us dismantling a criminal cultivation… disrupting the work of organised crime, and was also at risk of causing safety issues for other people living nearby. Anyone who sees or hears anything suspicious in relation to drug dealing should contact us so appropriate action can be taken.”
The probe into this Class B drug production is ongoing as police step up their crackdown on illegal drug activities across Kent.
