Thug Jailed for Eight Years After Brutal Assault on Two Police Officers
Violent Attack Shocks Hatherley Road
Mark Weatherley, 43, from Hatherley Road, has been sentenced to eight years behind bars for a savage, unprovoked attack that left two female police officers with shattered faces. On top of his prison term, Weatherley will serve an additional four years on licence when released.
Chaos Erupts at Weatherley’s Home
The nightmare began on June 29 just before midday when officers responded to a disturbance at Weatherley’s house. While helping a woman, officers were suddenly met with Weatherley’s explosive rage. His abuse and resistance sparked a brutal assault on the two attending female officers.
Relentless Assault on Police
- Weatherley knocked one officer unconscious with a powerful punch to the head.
- He repeatedly punched and kicked another officer, leaving her unconscious on the floor.
- He resumed attacking the first officer, throwing vile insults.
- The thug even boasted he’d be worse if male officers were involved.
Backup arrived just in time to subdue Weatherley. The officers suffered serious injuries including multiple facial fractures and a broken nose.
Defiant in Custody
Even behind bars, Weatherley showed no remorse. Officers had to interview him through his cell door due to his violent outbursts. He threatened police, saying he thought they “deserved it” and vowed to attack again. Weatherley pleaded guilty to two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent on July 29.
Voices from the Frontline
“This was an utterly horrific unprovoked attack,” said Detective Chief Superintendent Trevor Lawry. “The bravery and professionalism of officers who rushed to help is commendable. Without them, this brutal assault would have continued.”
Senior Crown Prosecutor James Bowker added, “Police officers face danger daily protecting communities. They should do so without fear. This sentence shows the justice system will throw the book at anyone who attacks our emergency workers.”
