Man charged with murder of schoolboy in terrifying Hainault sword attack

Marcus Monzo in court over deadly rampage

Marcus Aurelio Arduini Monzo, 36, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today. He faces murder charges over the stabbing death of 14-year-old Daniel Anjorin and injuries to four others during a violent sword attack in Hainault, East London. Monzo, a dual Spanish-Brazilian national from Newham, is also charged with attempted murder, grievous bodily harm, aggravated burglary, and possession of a bladed weapon.

Dressed casually in a grey sweatshirt and tracksuit bottoms, Monzo confirmed his identity during the hearing, his left arm held tight against his chest.

Chilling details of rampage revealed

Prosecutor David Burns told the court how Monzo allegedly ploughed a van into a fence before attacking a passerby. He then broke into a nearby home, assaulting a couple and their four-year-old daughter.

The darkest moment came when Monzo is said to have savagely slashed Daniel’s neck and stabbed him in the chest as the boy walked to school.

Community reels from tragic loss

Daniel was a beloved pupil at Bancroft’s School in Woodford Green, remembered as a “true scholar” with a “gentle character” who lit up his family and community. The school flew its flag at half-mast in his honour.

Daniel’s family, leaning on their deep Christian faith, are struggling with their heartache, holding on to hope of a reunion in heaven.

The people of Hainault remain shocked and devastated by the loss of the young boy in such a brutal attack.

About the accused

Monzo, known online as “FreekingMark,” is described as an amateur musician and mystic. Social media shows him boasting sports medals and dressing as Robin Hood for archery events, painting a bizarre picture of the man accused of this horrific crime.
