Man Found Guilty of Deadly Car Attack After Repeatedly Using Vehicle as Weapon
Rowland Convicted of Murder and Dangerous Driving
Trevelle Rowland, 34, from Islington, was slammed by an Inner 1 Crown Court jury on Monday, 12 January. They found him guilty of murder, dangerous driving, and two counts of attempted grievous bodily harm. This verdict comes just ten months after Rowland used the same brutal tactic to injure two security guards.
Detective Brands Rowland “Extremely Dangerous” and “Devious Liar”
“Rowland is an extremely dangerous man. He used his car as a weapon against three men – one of whom tragically lost his life,” said Detective Inspector Aytac Necati, leading the investigation. “He misled police about the initial attack over a trivial dispute before killing another man using the exact same method. Both attacks were caught on CCTV. “We express our sympathies to the family of Fergany Mvuezolo and to the two surviving victims. Rowland has left a trail of destruction.”
Death on Barking Road and Earlier Shocking Attack
The fatal crash took place at around 5.20am on Sunday, 24 March 2024, on Barking Road, East Ham. Emergency crews found 35-year-old Fergany Mvuezolo critically injured. Despite officers’ efforts at first aid, Fergany tragically died soon after.
Investigators gathered CCTV footage, witness statements, and phone videos showing a dispute outside a restaurant involving Fergany, who knew Rowland. After driving off, Rowland sped back in his VW Tiguan, deliberately ramming the helpless victim.
Witnesses quickly identified Rowland as the driver. Police launched a manhunt and arrested him at Heathrow Airport the same day as he tried to flee the country. A restaurant receipt linking him to the scene was found on him.
Police also tied Rowland to a chilling attack in May 2023, when he drove into two security guards outside a Barking pub after being told to remove a baseball cap. One guard was thrown onto the car bonnet, suffering knee and ankle injuries, while the other suffered hand injuries.
Rowland’s Lies Unravelled as Victims Name Him
Rowland denied involvement when he showed up at Dagenham police station, claiming he’d rented out the VW Tiguan. However, both security guards later identified him as the driver. He now faces sentencing on Thursday, 15 January, charged with murder and two counts of attempted grievous bodily harm.
