Predator jailed after trying to hook 14-year-old in Cardiff park – then erupts with foul-mouthed tirade in court

Roath man caught targeting schoolgirls in busy park

Abdirahman Osman, 44, sparked outrage across Cardiff after attempting to sexually assault a 14-year-old girl in Roath Park. The offender approached a group of schoolgirls, patronising them as “sweeties” and claiming he wanted to be their boyfriend.

When the girls rejected him, Osman ignored their refusals, probing their ages and even trying to hug one child. He later tried to lure a girl to his home, falsely claiming he needed help – before asking her to perform a sex act.

Victim escapes, police swoop – Osman denies all

The terrified girl ran back to her friends and police were called immediately. Upon arrest, Osman flatly denied all allegations. But the evidence spoke – and he was found guilty of attempting to engage a child in sexual activity.

Furious outburst as Osman storms out of sentencing

At his virtual sentencing hearing, Osman exploded in anger. Mid-hearing, he shouted, “F**k your country!” before storming off camera and being taken back to his cell.

“Since this incident I feel wary of people and scared of people who look like him,” the victim told the court. “I no longer go out alone and avoid Roath Park because it’s too distressing.”

Osman locked up and slapped with Sex Offenders’ Register

Judge Lucy Crowther handed Osman a two-year prison sentence and slapped him with a 10-year stint on the Sex Offenders’ Register. Osman’s criminal record includes convictions for battery and robbery, marking him as a dangerous repeat offender preying on vulnerable victims.
