Man charged with murder over death of 24-year-old Harshita Brella found in Ilford car boot

Husband Charged But On the Run

A man has been formally charged with murder after the body of 24-year-old Harshita Brella was discovered in the boot of a car in Ilford, East London. Harshita, originally from Corby, Northamptonshire, was found dead in November 2024.

Her husband, 23-year-old Pankaj Lamba, now faces murder charges along with two counts of rape, sexual assault, and controlling or coercive behaviour. But despite the serious allegations, Lamba is believed to have fled the UK shortly after Harshita’s death and remains wanted by police.

Police Launch Nationwide Hunt

Northamptonshire Police launched a murder investigation following a welfare concern call on Wednesday, November 13, 2024. Their inquiries led them over 100 miles to Ilford, where the shocking find was made.

Officers continue to hunt for Lamba, with international forces involved in tracking his whereabouts.

CPS Speaks Out

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said: “The CPS has reviewed evidence submitted by Northamptonshire Police and authorised a murder charge against Pankaj Lamba in relation to Harshita Brella’s death.”

They added, “Criminal proceedings are active and must not be prejudiced by speculation or online commentary.”

Police Pledge Justice for Harshita

Detective Chief Inspector Johnny Campbell said: “We are committed to securing justice for Harshita and supporting her family during this difficult time. This is an active investigation and details remain confidential to protect the judicial process.”

Community Mourns as Investigation Continues

The tragic case has rocked both the Corby and Ilford communities. Floral tributes and condolences have been left near the discovery site as police urge anyone with information on Lamba’s location to come forward.
