Cold Case Shock: 1983 Kilburn Murder Gets New Twist
Nearly 40 years after Christopher Ainscough was found brutally killed in his Kilburn flat, police are reigniting the hunt for his killer — and seeking to track down his next of kin.
Christopher’s Mysterious Murder in Shoot Up Hill
Back in December 1983, officers discovered the body of 50-year-old Christopher Ainscough at Windmill Court, Shoot Up Hill. The Dublin-born man had suffered severe head injuries, believed to have been inflicted between December 2 and 5. Despite a full investigation, the attacker slipped through the net — and Christopher’s family has remained unknown to police ever since.
New Leads Spark Fresh Hope
The case was re-opened in late 2020 after someone came forward with information. Since then, police have made a breakthrough. On Tuesday, February 2, they arrested a 58-year-old man on suspicion of murder. He is currently held at a south London police station.
Detective Chief Inspector Simon Harding said: “It is nearly 40 years since Christopher Ainscough was murdered and given the significant development in this investigation, we are now putting renewed vigour into identifying his next of kin.”
“If you knew Christopher or his family circumstances then please get in touch – we want to let his family know Christopher remains at the centre of our thoughts. We are doing all we can to get justice for him and his loved ones.”
Police Plea: Help Find Christopher’s Family
Police urge anyone with information about Christopher or his relatives to contact the incident room immediately on 020 8721 4205. This cold case could finally see justice served — but only with a family’s closure.
