Police Probe After Ninth Break-In Sparks Blaze at Hamble United FC
Thieves’ Botched Raid Sets Petrol-Filled Container Alight
Hamble United Football Club was left reeling after yet another break-in attempt ended in disaster. Firefighters from Hightown and St Mary’s, backed by support from Eastleigh, rushed to the club’s Satchell Lane ground just before 2:30pm today. Smoke pouring from a container packed with petrol and ground maintenance gear sparked a full-blown blaze.
Fire Destroys Expensive Lawn Mowers and Strimmers
Despite heroic efforts, crews couldn’t save the professional mowers and strimmers inside—the fire totally destroyed the equipment. The club chairman raised the alarm after spotting the smoke.
Arson Task Force Joins Police in Investigation
Experts from Hampshire Fire and Rescue’s arson unit are teaming up with police following evidence that thieves used a disc cutter to try and steal gear from the container. A Hampshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said:
“We got the call at 2.22pm. Petrol inside a shipping container was on fire. We deployed two breathing apparatus teams, one jet, and a high-pressure hose reel.”
Two fire engines—one from St Mary’s Fire Station and another from Hightown—were dispatched to tackle the blaze.
