Tragedy in Glasgow as Ambulance and Taxi Crash Kills 71-Year-Old Woman
A deadly collision rocked east Glasgow on Sunday morning, September 24, 2023. An ambulance smashed into a taxi at the busy junction of London Road and Arcadia Street, leaving a 71-year-old woman dead and a paramedic injured.
Fatal Ambulance Crash at Busy Glasgow Junction
The crash happened at around 10:25am. Police were called to the scene immediately after reports of the collision between the ambulance and taxi.
Tragically, the 71-year-old woman travelling in the ambulance was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family have been informed and are mourning the heartbreaking loss.
Paramedic Injured, Taxi Driver Unharmed
A 38-year-old male paramedic travelling in the ambulance suffered injuries and was rushed to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment. The female paramedic driving the ambulance and the taxi driver escaped without injuries and did not require hospital care.
Police Seek Witnesses and Dash-Cam Footage
Sergeant Andrew Coutts of Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit West Command extended condolences to the victim’s family and confirmed a full investigation is underway.
“Our thoughts and condolences are with the family of the lady who died,” Sgt. Coutts said. “Extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the collision.”
“I am appealing to anyone who was on London Road or Arcadia Street around 10:25am on Sunday morning, particularly those with dash-cam footage, to please come forward.”
