Chaos unfolded at two Wiltshire schools on the morning of Tuesday, 16 September 2025, as police responded to reports of serious threats. Both staff and pupils at Devizes School in Devizes and Nova Hreod Academy in Swindon were evacuated to ensure their safety, causing widespread concern across the region.
Parents were promptly informed via email, although specific details about the threats were limited. Additionally, Melksham Oak Community School mistakenly sent a warning message to parents but later clarified that it was an error and reassured families.
A spokesperson for Devizes School confirmed that the evacuation was triggered by a threatening phone call. They stated, “We immediately sought police advice as per our Incident Response Plan. Police thoroughly searched the site and completed a risk assessment. Thankfully, there’s no evidence of any credible threat. Students are now safely back in class and continuing as normal.”
James Harding Mbogo, Principal of Nova Hreod Academy, addressed parents saying, “The evacuation this morning was due to a safety concern. The issue was later found to be spurious. Everyone followed evacuation procedures impeccably. With police guidance, the situation is now resolved, and the school day continues as normal.”
