Two repeat sex offenders from Kent have been jailed following breaches of Sexual Harm Prevention Orders (SHPOs) intended to keep the public safe. Andrew McPherson, 53, from Gillingham, and Jay Bishenden, 24, of Sittingbourne, were both sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court for violating court orders designed to protect the community.
Strict Orders Breached
Jay Bishenden was found to be using concealed internet-enabled devices in breach of his SHPO restrictions. On 13 November 2025, police searched his home on Castle Rough Lane and recovered two mobile phones and a laptop. Investigators discovered evidence of private browser use, which violated the terms of his order.
Admitted Multiple Offences
Bishenden pleaded guilty to seven breaches of his SHPO, along with additional offences linked to a suspended sentence. On 30 April 2026, he was sentenced to two years and three months in prison for the breaches and related charges.
Regular Checks Expose Further Breaches
During a routine visit on 12 January 2026 to Andrew McPherson’s home in Charter Street, officers found internet activity on his phone and laptop. McPherson admitted to three breaches of his SHPO and was sentenced to one year in prison on 29 April.
Police Highlight Importance Of SHPOs
Detective Inspector Martin Carter of Kent Police’s MOSOVO unit said: “SHPOs are a valuable tool in catching repeat offenders and making young people safer on the internet. They allow us greater access to the homes and devices of convicted sex offenders so we can eliminate any risk to the wider public. These are just two sentencings of the many our officers secure each year, and I am satisfied that our thorough supervision and subsequent investigations have ensured Bishenden and McPherson are now behind bars.”
