A three-year-old boy was critically injured after being thrown into a crocodile enclosure at Johnsons of Old Hurst zoo near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire. The incident occurred just before 1:30 pm today, leading to an urgent police response.
Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene and rushed the child to hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
A 30-year-old man from Norfolk was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Police have stated that the suspect is not believed to be known to the boy or his family.
The shocking attack took place in front of other zoo visitors, prompting swift action from both police and emergency responders. The child sustained serious injuries during the encounter inside the crocodile enclosure.
Cambridgeshire Police confirmed that the suspect, a Norfolk resident aged 30, is currently in custody. Officers have indicated there is no known connection between the man and the child or his family.
Detective Inspector Verity McCann said authorities are speaking to witnesses who were present at the zoo to establish the full circumstances of this distressing event.
Police are also providing support to the boy’s family at the hospital. A spokesperson added, “Our thoughts remain with them,” emphasising the sensitivity of the ongoing investigation.
