Emergency services are responding to a serious three-vehicle crash on the A249 northbound near the M20 roundabout at Detling, Maidstone, this evening, Tuesday 25 February 2025. The collision, reported at approximately 10:12pm, has resulted in the closure of both northbound and southbound lanes, causing significant disruption to traffic.
Two fire engines from Kent Fire and Rescue Service quickly arrived at the scene, supported by Kent Police and paramedics from South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb). Firefighters deployed hydraulic rescue equipment, including jaws of life, spreaders, rams, and cutting tools, to carefully extract passengers trapped inside one of the vehicles involved in the crash.
A spokesperson for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said, “Our crews are working hard alongside partner agencies to safely access a vehicle involved in the collision. We urge drivers to avoid the A249 in both directions and seek alternative routes as the road remains closed.”
With the A249 shut in both directions, traffic congestion has escalated across the surrounding area. Authorities have warned motorists of heavy delays and advised them to follow official diversion routes. Kent Police have confirmed that robust traffic management measures are in place but expect significant delays to continue into the night.
Emergency teams have also appealed to the public to share information about the road closure, especially with those who may not have access to live traffic updates or the internet. The fire service added, “If you know anyone driving near Maidstone tonight, please warn them about the closures to help ease congestion and keep everyone safe.”
