Tragedy occurred early on 18 June 2018 at Loughborough Junction, South London, when three men were killed after being hit by a freight train. The men were found near spray paint cans, suggesting they may have been involved in tagging before the fatal incident.
The bodies were discovered shortly before 7am. British Transport Police and London Ambulance Service responded quickly, but all three victims were pronounced dead at the scene despite paramedics’ efforts.
Police are currently working to identify the men and notify their families. The circumstances that led to the men being on the railway tracks are not yet known, prompting an urgent investigation.
Detective Superintendent Gary Richardson of British Transport Police said, “My team are now working hard to understand what happened and how these three people came to lose their life on the railway. My thoughts are with the family and friends of these three people. At this time, we are treating their death as unexplained. Anyone near Loughborough Junction this morning who saw anything suspicious is urged to come forward.”
Train services in the area are experiencing delays as the investigation continues. Commuters are advised to check National Rail Enquiries before travelling.
