Thousands of pounds have been raised to support the devastated family of 14-year-old Beau Croucher, who died following a collision involving a bus in Portsmouth. Beau was seriously injured in the collision involving a Stagecoach bus at The Hard in Portsea on Monday, 17 August. He was taken to hospital for treatment but later died from his injuries. A GoFundMe fundraiser established to support Beau’s family had raised £10,746 by Monday, as friends, football supporters and members of the Portsmouth community rallied around his loved ones. Beau’s parents, Sam and Alex, described their son as their “absolute world” and said he was Portsmouth FC’s number one fan. They said Beau loved going to Fratton Park and following Pompey with his father and grandfather. In an emotional tribute, his parents described Beau as being “like sunshine”, saying his humour, intelligence and kindness brought happiness to those around him. They said their son had simply gone out for the afternoon and never returned home, adding that their family had been overwhelmed by the messages and support they had received. Flowers and messages have since been left close to the scene of the collision at The Hard. A petition has also been launched calling for the bus stop near the scene to be relocated amid concerns over its safety.
Police investigation continues
A 39-year-old man from Portsmouth, who was driving the bus, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has been released on bail until 17 November while Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary continues its investigation. Beau’s family are being supported by specialist officers. Police continue to appeal for witnesses to the collision and are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have relevant information or footage.
