A 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a fire tore through a property in Canterbury city centre on Monday night, December 2.
Kent Police were called to Guildhall Street at around 8:45pm following reports of a significant fire. Officers quickly closed nearby roads and evacuated residents from surrounding buildings as Kent Fire and Rescue worked to extinguish the flames.
The following day, the teenager voluntarily surrendered himself at Canterbury Police Station and was arrested. He remains in custody while detectives continue to investigate the cause and circumstances surrounding the fire.
Detectives have thanked members of the public who have already provided information and are urging anyone with further details to contact Kent Police on 01843 222289, quoting reference 03-0160. Information can also be reported anonymously through Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
Emergency services remain at the scene to ensure safety and assess the extent of the damage. Authorities have not yet disclosed what caused the fire or whether there were any injuries.
