Firefighters battled a massive marsh blaze in Swanscombe on the evening of the incident. A large area of grass and undergrowth on Swanscombe Marshes caught fire, leading to warnings for nearby residents to stay safe.
Residents of Greenhithe and Swanscombe were advised to keep windows and doors shut due to thick smoke spreading from the fire. Early in the response, four fire engines and an all-terrain vehicle were dispatched to the scene, with additional support en route.
By 9pm, the fire had spread over approximately three hectares. Six fire engines were actively tackling the flames, concentrating efforts on preventing further spread across the marshes.
By 9.30pm, firefighters had made significant progress, reducing the affected area to around five hectares. Crews focused on damping down hot spots and successfully contained the blaze. Authorities lifted the advice for residents to keep windows and doors closed as smoke levels decreased.
Officials confirmed that there were no reported injuries and that the cause of the fire remains unknown. Residents were encouraged to share updates with those without internet access to ensure the community stays informed.
