New data reveals a staggering 230% rise compared to last year, with 716 confirmed cases reported between July and November 2023. That’s triple the figures for the same period in 2022, according to the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA).
What is Whooping Cough?

The tell-tale “whoop” sound during coughs, breathlessness, and vomiting after coughing are classic signs. Babies may turn grey or blue during episodes, while adults often suffer red-faced, intense coughing bursts.

If you notice symptoms in a baby under six months, or severe, worsening cough in anyone, seek medical help immediately. Pregnant women and those with weakened immune systems should be extra careful, especially if exposed to an infected person.
