Chaos erupted on Newington Causeway this morning when a 35 bus collided with a stationary 333 bus and crashed into the window of Southwark Playhouse shortly after 8am.
The 35 bus struck the 333 bus, causing extensive damage to both vehicles and shattering the playhouse window. The incident forced the closure of the road for several hours, disrupting the busy London street during the morning rush hour.
Six individuals were injured in the crash and were taken to hospital. A spokesperson from the Metropolitan Police confirmed that none of the injuries sustained were life-threatening or life-changing. No arrests have been made in connection with the collision.
Emergency services responded rapidly to the scene. James Johnson, Strategic Commander for London Ambulance Service, stated: “We were called at 8.06am to reports of a road traffic collision in Newington Causeway. Ambulances, paramedics in fast response cars, advanced paramedics, an incident response officer, and our Hazardous Area Response Team were all sent. A trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance was also dispatched.”
He continued, “We treated several patients at the scene and took six of them to hospital.”
Photographs from the scene show the front of the 35 bus completely smashed, the rear of the 333 bus badly damaged, and the window of Southwark Playhouse shattered. The impact caused significant disruption and chaos on the busy street during the morning commute.
