The M2’s westbound carriageway between Faversham and Sittingbourne is closed this morning after a serious two-car crash. Emergency services responded quickly to the scene, with National Highways confirming the closure will last well into the afternoon.

A National Highways spokesperson said: “The M2 is closed westbound between Junction 6 for Faversham and Junction 5 for Sittingbourne due to a serious collision involving two vehicles. Emergency services, including police, are on site.”

They added, “Due to the severity of this incident, the road is likely to be closed for an extended period of time. It is likely that the carriageway will remain closed throughout the morning and into the afternoon.”

Motorists are being advised to follow complex diversions. Traffic is being rerouted via the A251 from Faversham, then onto the A252, M20, and A249 before rejoining the M2. Drivers should expect heavy traffic and delays on these alternative routes as emergency crews continue their work.
