A major collision has forced the closure of the A2 Londonbound between Pepperhill and Springhead near Gravesend, Kent. Emergency services are currently working to clear the scene amid heavy traffic congestion.

Kent Police, Kent Fire and Rescue Service, South East Coast Ambulance, and the Kent Surrey Sussex Air Ambulance are all present at the site of the serious crash. The incident has brought traffic to a complete standstill in both directions.

Road closures and halted traffic have been implemented to allow emergency crews to work safely and to facilitate air ambulance support.

A spokesman for Highways England confirmed: “The A2 in Kent is fully closed between Pepperhill Interchange and Springhead Interchange due to the collision. Police, fire, ambulance, air ambulance, and National Highways crews are currently at the scene. Expect a prolonged closure.”

Londonbound Diversion Route:

Exit the A2 at Pepperhill Interchange. At the roundabout, take the third exit onto B262 Hall Road. At the next roundabout, take the second exit onto B262 Springhead Road. At the following roundabout, take the first exit onto the A226. Turn left at the A2260 junction. Take the first exit at the next roundabout to stay on the A2260. Then take the second exit at the next roundabout to link back onto the A2 via Springhead Interchange.

Coastbound Diversion Route:

Exit the A2 at Springhead Interchange. Keep right at the slip road to the roundabout, avoiding the left fast link road. Take the second exit at the roundabout. Keep left on the distributor road towards Pepperhill Interchange. Bear left onto B262 Hall Road. At the first roundabout, take the fourth exit to continue on B262 Hall Road. Keep left to rejoin the A2.

Commuters are warned to avoid the area as delays are expected to worsen while the closure remains in place. Drivers are urged to follow the diversions and exercise patience. Updates will be provided through official channels as emergency crews work swiftly to clear the wreckage.
