A Basingstoke family experienced a frightening morning when a car crashed into their home during the busy rush hour.
At approximately 7:55am, a Renault Clio sped into a property on Belle Vue Road, smashing through the front door and into the hallway. The driver, believed to be a 60-year-old man, is suspected to have suffered a medical episode that caused him to lose control of the vehicle.
Fire crews from Basingstoke and Hartley Wintney quickly responded to the incident. They assisted a middle-aged mother and her young son to escape the house by helping them climb out of a window using a ladder. Meanwhile, two fire teams worked to free the trapped driver from the damaged car.
A spokesman from South Central Ambulance Service stated, “We believe the motorist had some sort of medical event which led to him veering off the road.”
The driver was taken to Basingstoke Hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Fortunately, the family escaped without injury despite the shock of the crash.
Road closures remain in place on Belle Vue Road between Cavalier Road and Fairthorne Rise while emergency services continue to clear the scene.
