Romford station was shut down in both directions on March 5 following a fatal train collision. Emergency teams responded to reports of a casualty on the tracks between Ilford and Shenfield just before 4pm.
The tragic incident led to widespread disruption as Romford station remained closed for several hours. Numerous bus routes experienced chaos, including the 5, 66, 86, 103, 128, 165, 174, 175, 193, 247, 248, 252, 294, 296, 347, 365, 370, 375, 496, 498, and 499.
A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to a report of a casualty on the tracks at 3.58pm today (5 March) at Romford Railway Station. Officers and paramedics attended, and sadly a person was pronounced deceased. The incident is not thought to be suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
After cleanup and investigations were completed, Romford station reopened at 4.32pm. Commuters are advised to check travel updates and consider alternative routes as delays continue to affect the area.
