A 21-year-old man, Owen Martin, has been jailed for three years after carrying out a firebomb attack on a house in Drumchapel, Glasgow. The property was occupied by a mother and her three children who were asleep at the time of the incident.
Martin poured petrol around the house and set it on fire shortly after midnight on May 12, 2025, putting the lives of the occupants at serious risk. The attack took place just after midnight, with Martin deliberately dousing the side of the house with petrol before igniting it.
The targeted home contained the mother, her 21-year-old son, his friend, and the children during the attack. Emergency services were alerted promptly and responded to the scene to control the fire and ensure the safety of those inside.
At Glasgow Sheriff Court on April 28, 2026, Martin pleaded guilty to wilful fire-raising to the danger of life and was sentenced accordingly. The court handed down a three-year custodial sentence, followed by an additional year of supervision after his release.
Police have confirmed that the firebombing was connected to serious organised crime, although details about the nature of the dispute remain limited. The sentence reflects the grave risk Martin’s actions posed to the safety of the family living in the property.
