A fierce blaze tore through a basement flat in Brighton on Sunday afternoon, prompting a significant emergency response.
At just after 4pm, East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service dispatched six fire engines and an Aerial Ladder Platform to Chesham Place, where the fire had engulfed the basement flat of a four-storey building.
Firefighters fought the intense fire using 12 breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, a main jet, and foam to bring the flames under control.
Emergency crews rescued one person from the burning flat. The individual was quickly transported to hospital by the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb).
Following the fire, gas and electric supplies were shut off at the scene to prevent further hazards. Fire crews are currently dampening down the site to stop the fire from reigniting.
Road closures remain in place around Chesham Place, and locals are advised to avoid the area while emergency services continue their work.
