Michael Lawrence Tyler, known professionally as Mystikal, the 90s rapper, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to third-degree rape in a Louisiana court. The 55-year-old was convicted for an incident that occurred in July 2022 at his home in Prairieville.

This sentence comes after multiple previous arrests related to sexual offences dating back to 2003. The 20-year sentence carries no possibility of parole, although Mystikal has been given credit for time served since his arrest in 2022.

Long History Of Offences

Mystikal has faced several sexual assault charges throughout his life. In 2003, he was convicted of aggravated rape and sentenced to six years in prison. In 2017, he was jailed for 18 months on charges of first-degree rape and kidnapping; however, that case was later dismissed by a grand jury.

In 2022, Mystikal was charged with rape and domestic abuse. He pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of third-degree rape, which led to the current 20-year sentence.

Victim's Harrowing Testimony

During the court proceedings, the victim recounted how Mystikal punched, choked, pulled out her braids, and tortured her for hours during the 2022 attack. Her powerful testimony played a significant role in the judge’s decision to impose the maximum sentence.

Mystikal's Court Statement

Mystikal addressed the court, saying: “If that’s what I did, I deserve every day of this sentence. I’m sorry. I hope you heal.” His admission and apology during sentencing demonstrated a rare acceptance of responsibility for his actions.

Future Restrictions

Upon release, Mystikal will be required to register as a lifetime sex offender. Given the length of his current sentence, he is expected to remain in custody until his 70s, effectively preventing any further offences against the public.
