A massive search operation is underway this morning along the River Thames in Gravesend after a young girl disappeared in the water on Friday afternoon.
Kent Police were alerted at 1:46pm on Friday, 30 May, following a welfare alert from the Port of London Authority regarding two children who had entered the river near Royal Pier Road.
Emergency teams, including H.M. Coastguard, the RNLI, and the South East Coast Ambulance Service, quickly responded to the scene. A boy was rescued from the water and taken to hospital, where his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
The search is now focused on locating the missing girl. Despite ongoing efforts, she has not yet been found. Kent Police’s Marine Unit, working alongside H.M. Coastguard, continues to search the river and surrounding riverbanks for any sign of her.
A spokesperson for Kent Police said: “We are working alongside partner agencies in an extensive search operation to locate the missing child. Our thoughts are with her family at this deeply distressing time.”
Emergency crews remain at Royal Pier Road, conducting their search with urgency. The public is urged to keep clear of the area to avoid disrupting rescue operations.
