Just after 4pm on Sunday, East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service responded to a serious fire at Chesham Place, Brighton. Flames tore through a basement flat located in a four-storey building, prompting a major emergency response.
Six fire engines and the Aerial Ladder Platform were deployed to tackle the intense blaze. At the height of the operation, crews used 12 breathing apparatus sets, two hose reel jets, a foam jet, and a main water jet to combat the flames.
Firefighters successfully rescued one person from the burning property. The individual was immediately taken to hospital under the care of South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb).
Fire crews are currently damping down the site and ensuring the fire is completely extinguished. For safety reasons, gas and electric supplies have been cut off at the scene. Road closures remain in place, and members of the public are advised to avoid the area if possible.
