Greater Manchester Police responded to a stabbing incident on Raby Street, Moss Side, at around 11pm on 8 May. A man in his 30s was found with stab wounds and was taken to hospital, but he later died despite medical efforts.
An 18-year-old male has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody while the investigation continues.
Detective Superintendent Toby Facey, who is leading the investigation into the targeted violent attack, described the stabbing as a shocking act of violence. He reassured the public that the evidence so far suggests the attack was targeted, with no wider threat to the community.
The crime scene on Raby Street remains preserved as detectives carry out a detailed investigation. Officers are following all available leads to establish the full circumstances and to identify any other individuals who may have been involved.
Extra policing units have been deployed across Moss Side to provide reassurance to residents and encourage anyone with concerns or information about the stabbing to come forward.
Police are appealing for witnesses.
