A man in his 40s has tragically died after being crushed by a delivery lorry in Guildford this afternoon. Emergency services rushed to the scene following a collision on Onslow Street around 2:30pm.
The victim was out Christmas shopping when the fatal accident happened. The delivery lorry was reversing into a loading bay near the Friary Shopping Centre when it struck the pedestrian. The incident took place on the southbound side of Onslow Street between York Road and Millbrook, close to Guildford’s one-way system.
Paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service arrived alongside the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance. Despite efforts, the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Surrey Police confirmed the fatal collision and have launched a full investigation to establish how the tragic event unfolded.
Police closed the area and set up traffic diversions, causing severe congestion. Traffic backed up to Ladymead, bringing much of Guildford town centre to a standstill. Authorities are appealing for any witnesses or dashcam footage to help piece together the circumstances behind this heartbreaking crash.
